Discounted Travel Gear
One of the golden rules on how to Travel Better is to make sure you have the right (travel) gear for each and every trip.
Now, while this is great advice, we do recognise that travel gear isn’t free and therefore being able to buy those items at discounted prices is great and also gives you the opportunity to upgrade to better versions of some equipment as it may now fall within your budget.
Save money that you can spend on Travel
Amazon Prime Day gives you the opportunity to save money on planned and everyday purchases and you can use the money saved on travel and adventures with your family.
Just make sure you do take advantage of the discounts and put the difference away in your travel piggy bank.
Secure your home while you are away
Amazon Prime Day includes discounts on secure devices and subscriptions with providers link Ring so you can ensure your home stays secure while you are away on your travels.
Discounted Subscriptions
Amazon Prime Day includes discounts on music, reading, audiobooks and gaming services from Amazon which can be a great help while on your travels and stave off boredom during long drives, flights and ferries.
Additionally, audiobooks and calming music can be a great way to help your kids settle at strange new locations so we recommend taking these up to help you travel better and it is certainly worth taking advantage of Prime Day discounts for these services.

The Downside of Amazon Prime Day
While taking advantage of Amazon Prime Day can you you live and travel better there are some very real and impactful downsides to Amazon Prime Day that you should consider.
I’ve also listed a few tips to handle each one to make sure you don’t fall into any of these Amazon Prime Day traps.
Buying things you don’t need
Amazon Prime Day promotes consumerism and in a big way and will lead many people to make purchases for items that they simply don’t need and don’t add any value to their lives, and travel, while they do cost them money.
Money that could be spent on travel and adventure or in many other valuable places in your life.
It is easy to fall into this trap as things look shiny, new and will appear to be good deals. Link this to the human need for dopamine and you can quickly find yourself buying too much on Amazon Prime Day.
To avoid this problem take the following actions.
Make a list of what you need, not want, need and focus only on those items on the day. For example, you may want a new suitcase because your current one is a bit dated and tatty…but crucially does the job still…so don’t add this to this list as it is a want rather than a need.
Another tip is that before hitting the buy button ask yourself out loud, yes out loud, will this item add value to my life. If you can’t think of an answer to respond to yourself within 10 seconds then don’t buy it.
You pay more than you should for an item
While an Amazon deal may appear enticing, there’s always a chance that it’s available cheaper elsewhere. Just because an item is included in Prime Day doesn’t necessarily mean Amazon offers the best price.
Before making any purchases, consider quickly checking alternative providers to see if you can find a better deal. In the UK, explore options like Argos, John Lewis, and Curry’s. In the USA, take a look at Walmart and Target to compare prices.
The environment impact of Amazon Prime Day
There’s no escaping the truth: Amazon’s global shopping extravaganza leaves an indelible mark on our environment.
As the frenzy of consumerism surges, so does waste with piles of packaging materials destined for landfills. And let’s not forget the fleet of delivery vehicles crisscrossing our roads, spewing emissions into the air.
While Amazon strives to address these issues, they persist. As conscientious shoppers, we must pause and reflect. Do we truly need that item? Could we wait until tomorrow? After all, we’re stewards of this planet, and our choices ripple across its delicate fabric.
So, as you click that ‘Buy Now’ button, consider the Earth beneath your feet—the one you love to explore on your travels. Let’s ensure it remains a beautiful, thriving home for generations to come.
Overall
Overall, Amazon Prime Day can help you travel better. But, there are some downsides of Prime Day to consider so shop carefully and be sure to have your lists ready and don’t get distracted into buying things you don’t need.
