How the work days for holidays app works

The work days for holidays app takes the cost of your holiday and works out how many days you have to work to cover that cost.

It does this by taking you net salary for each month and working out an approximate value for money earned per hour worked. It then works out the average earnings per day based on the hourly rate. The cost of the trip is then divided by the money earned per day to work out how many days you have to work to match the cost of the holiday.

To calculate the money earned per day it assumes you work the UK average of 47 weeks a year. It then divides the net salary for the year across the total hours worked in 47 weeks. This gives you the money earned per hour. The hours worked per week is then divided by the number of days worked a week to give the average hours worked per day. This is then multiplied by the money earned per hour to give you the money earned, on average, per day.

The calculation is work out this way to be able to provide a result for part time working and schedules that might not be the same across each day.
