Travelbetter AI Use Policy

At Travelbetter, our mission is to help quiet, anxious and neurodiverse families explore more and worry less. To do that, we rely on a mix of personal experience, research, thoughtful planning – and some help from AI.
In this document we explain why we use AI and how it is an important tool in Travelbetter’s development. We also explain exactly how we use it.
Why we use AI
For years, Travelbetter was an idea waiting to be built – eleven years to be precise. During the past eleven years Travelbetter existed in one form or another but never to vision we aspired to. The truth is I never had the time to really develop the content and tools as much as I wanted. From my successful IT career of leading teams in solution delivery (which is now up to an eye watering 25 years) I knew if I could ever get to the point of being able to have a team then I could really move it forward.
However, I was also committed to its development being self funded (it had to prove it could pay for itself rather than risk the family income) and it has never reached the point of being able to employ a team. In fact it has always remained a very long way off.
As a result, the community languished in a sort of catch 22 of needing money to hire a team to develop the content and tools while having no team to develop the tools and content needed.
This has all changed with ChatGPT 4 and similar AI tools.
These tools are, largely, filling the gap of a team and allowing me to progress developments, expand my research, and support the development of quality content at a good pace.
All at a cost that for the most part Travelbetter makes enough to cover. Additionally, it is able to do this without the large overhead on time that a team comes with.
As a solo founder and creator AI allows me to finally bring Travelbetter to life at the quality level I believe its community deserves.
Where AI is Used
We current use AI in the following ways:
- Content Support: Some articles and guides are drafted or edited with the help of ChatGPT. Every post is reviewed by a human (Travelbetter Dad and/or Travelbetter Mum) to ensure it meets our tone and values.
- Tool Development: AI supports the creation and testing of our travel tools (for example our recent Ferry Finder App or Screen Time Calculator), helping us speed up development and improve quality. All code is reviewed and updated by Travelbetter Dad (utilising my background in IT and Software Development).
- Image Generation: Where real images are not available, and to protect the privacy requests of our Neurodivergent children, we may use clearly labelled AI-generated images to illustrate key points.
- Behind the Scenes: AI helps with admin tasks, project planning, debugging code, and content planning. all this provides Travelbetter with a virtual support team with the financial and time costs of a real team.
What we don’t do with AI
- We never use AI to make decisions about individuals or collect/store senstive personal data.
- We don’t allow AI to replace human empathy or insight. Especially when it comes to neurodiverse travel or being a parent.
- We don’t sell your data to any AI provider or third party.
Our commitment
We see AI as a tool, not a substitute for lived experience or real-world knowledge. As we continue to grow Travelbetter, we will:
- Always disclose when AI is used.
- Put the needs of neurodiverse familises first.
- Use AI to empowed, not replace, human connection.
